Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, began filming and was shown in cinemas in July 2017. Tom Holland was cast as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya as MJ. They met and eventually started a beautiful friendship on the set of this movie. During the height of their promotions for the film, fans were easy to speculate that the two were already dating but Tom and Zendaya denied the dating rumors.

Tom dedicated an Instagram post to Zendaya to greet her on her birthday. His post came with a funny caption: "Thinking about how to get taller 😂 Happy birthday mate. Miss you and I'll have a drink for you. #21stbirthday." Tom has since made it a tradition to post a birthday greeting for his "mate" on social media.
