MANILA — The FEU Bamboo Band will celebrate Filipino heritage and the spirit of freedom through “Malaya: Songs of Freedom” on September 26 at the FEU Auditorium in Manila.
Presented by the Far Eastern University Center for the Arts, the one-hour concert will feature traditional Filipino music, socially conscious songs and international anthems centered on themes of freedom, peace and identity.
The repertoire includes David Benoit and Nathan East’s “Freedom at Midnight,” Tropical Depression’s “Kapayapaan,” the traditional Cordillera folk song “Salidumay” and the Scorpions’ “Wind of Change,” all performed using Philippine bamboo instruments.
The concert will also feature collaborations with the Far Eastern University Chorale, which will join the Bamboo Band for the patriotic song “Bayan Ko.”
Heleina Kirstensen Li of the FEU Theater Guild will also perform John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
The concert is led by FEU Bamboo Band artistic director Norbie Cads.
“Malaya: Songs of Freedom” starts at 7:30 p.m. on September 26 at the historic FEU Auditorium.
Tickets are free for members of the FEU community with a valid FEU ID. FEU alumni may purchase tickets for P100 with a valid FEU ID, while tickets for non-FEU community members cost P200.
