MANILA — Miss World 2013 and actress Megan Young candidly shared her fears about the future of her son, Leon, as she embraces motherhood for the first time.
"There's a lot of things happening nowadays na siyempre lahat tayo bilang Filipino galit na galit siyempre tayo. Kasi we are trying to pay our taxes on time as much as possible parang walang delays. Tapos nakikita mo kung saan napupunta. So ang ikinakatakot ko lang is the future for my child," Young told ABS-CBN News on Friday as she was announced as the newest endorser of napkins and pantyliners brand Sisters.
"Kasi siyempre I think all of us here naman, the future of us individuals and the future of our children, we are worried about them na parang saan na mapupunta? Magiging okay pa ba tayo in the future? How will the government be for them during their time, when nowadays it's like this and even before pa. We don't know, hindi ba?. So I'm just afraid for that for Leon," she added.
Together with her husband Mikael Daez, Young said their focus as parents is to raise Leon with the right values.
"I always tell Mikael na one thing that I want to make sure that we give to Leon is we make sure that he is a good person. Kasi doon lahat magsisimula 'yon. You are a good person. You teach them good values, you teach them how to take care of other peope in a good way," Young said.
"So for us, it's not about money at the end of the day when it comes to us. We work hard, we earn our money, and we save it. But at the end of the day, it's about being a good person. It's about making sure that you are happy, the people around you are happy. And those are the values that we want to bring. And siyempre ipapakita namin kung ano 'yung mga hindi niya dapat gawin. And we will definitely be there to guide him para hindi siya mapunta sa route na 'yon," she added.
When asked of her dream future for her son, Young replied: "My dream future for Leon is that he gets to do the things that he wants to do. Ayaw ko siyang i-box into something na ayaw niya. ... I want him to excel in something na enjoy niya talaga."
For Young, motherhood came at the right time, as she and her husband Mikael Daez felt ready to take on the responsibility.
She shared that she was grateful they had the chance to enjoy married life together before welcoming their son Leon last May.
Aside from taking care of her son, Young is trying her best to take care of herself with the help of her husband and the people around them.
"Na-overcome ko ('yung post-partum) kasi nag-uusap kami ni Mikael. Kung hindi kami nag-usap about it at kung hindi niya ako tinulungan na i-process 'yun baka hanggang ngayon ay umiiyak pa rin ako. So sobrang thankful ako na tinulungan niya ako," Young said.
Meanwhile, Young was announced as the new endorser of Mega Soft Hygienic Products Inc.'s Sisters Napkins and Pantyliners.
