In the shade of the iconic red of Dorothy’s slippers, Ariana wore a custom Schiaparelli gown for the award show’s opening performance. With a classic 1950s silhouette, the dress sparkled beautifully, carrying an elegant train of tulle. The most special detail, though, was the shoe attached to the back, referencing the ruby slippers first seen in The Wizard of Oz—and of course, Ariana wore her very own pair too as she sang the iconic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

Cynthia Erivo also wore an equally beautiful look from Vivienne Westwood. What was originally a bridal dress from the designer’s 1997 collection (known as the “Bagatelle), Cynthia’s look was given some Wicked flair, decorated with florals by the hip and an added pop of green by its hem. Pairing a memorable look to her undeniable talent, the actress made a striking performance as she sang “Home” from “The Wiz”.
For their highly acclaimed roles in Wicked, Cynthia is a “Best Actress in a Leading Role” nominee while Ariana is nominated for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” this Oscars season.
