Former 'PBB' housemate Lou Yanong and model Kirk Bondad. ABS-CBN NewsMANILA — Former couple Lou Yanong and Kirk Bondad opened up to ABS-CBN News for the first time about their short but memorable romance, describing their six-month relationship as intense, unexpected and, in his words, “a fever dream.”
The former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate and Filipino-German model surprised everyone when clips of them together went viral -- from outdoor trips to running in tandem, among others. But last May, breakup rumors sparked when Yanong unfollowed Bondad on Instagram.
At the VMan SEA event, the former couple crossed paths in a crowded room filled with mutual friends. ABS-CBN News observed the initial tension as they avoided eye contact on the dance floor, until a friend intervened, prompting them to exchange handshakes and greetings.
ABS-CBN News invited the two for a quick interview. “Well, obviously we are not disgusted by us ‘cause we’re so comfortable here. I think we’re really good, we’re chill,” said Bondad.
Few with words, Yanong said, “We’re good.”
“Yeah, because a lot of people know that we have history, so seeing us in the same venue, it's always a little bit, what is happening here? So they look at us and they like bump, you know who's here,” he said.
The two confirmed what many had speculated: they were, in fact, a couple.
“Six months but it felt like forever,” said Bondad. “It felt like a fever dream, honestly. I know six months doesn't sound like a long time, but in retrospect, I felt like it was half of a lifetime. I learned a lot of, we had so many good moments. Really high quality. We’re good.”
Yanong was a bit more shy with her words and allowed Bondad to do all the talking. Even after the break-up, they knew that they would still bump into each other. “We share a similar friends group. Same church. So, it's just nature that we bump into each other,” he explained.
The body language during the interview showed how they remained cool friends even after the split.
Their relationship may have lasted only six months, but both said it gave them a deeper appreciation of each other in ways the public rarely sees.
“I love your quirkiness,” he said. “Lou is very quirky. And this is something that you cannot see really. Unless you are with a person. And you cannot really force a person to be quirky. So, it's in the little things.”
“Like the magnets that she has on her fridge. The taste in music. Sometimes, her thoughts very counter my strict, very narrative. So, that is something that I really appreciate about you.”
For her part, Yanong said, “So he has this persona that he likes to project, but when we’re alone, it’s different.”
“Are you calling me cute?” he joked
Yanong has been very supportive in Bondad’s career especially when he joined pageants. “Lou has been very supportive 'til the end,” he said.
Yanong will soon appear on Dreamscape Entertainment’s upcoming action-drama series "Roja."
