MANILA - A special exhibit to celebrate and honor the legacy of iconic comic character Darna will be held this May in San Pablo, Laguna.
The "From Panels To Legacy: Lipad, Darna! 75" exhibit will be held at Casa San Pablo in San Pablo City, Laguna from May 17 to June 17, 2025.
Darna, a creation of writer Mars Ravelo and comic book artist Nestor Redondo, first appeared in Philippine comic books in 1950.
Rex Ravelo, son of Mars Ravelo, said his dad created Darna to pay homage to his own mother.
“A lot of people don’t know that my father grew up very poor. Kaya nagkaroon ng ‘Darna,’ dahil na-inspire siya ng nanay niya. Single mother ang nanay niya. Watching the mother raise them singlehandedly, with the inspiration of Superman, he created Darna,” Rex said.
In 2022, ABS-CBN made a TV adaptation of Darna starring actress Jane de Leon.
