Oh, to experience the very first season of "Sparks Camp" again!
Season 1 of the groundbreaking queer dating reality show brought together campers who were ready to discover new sparks, form genuine connections, and perhaps find someone worth getting to know even after camp was over. Naturally, there was kilig. There were tears. There were plot twists.
So before camp officially opens again for Season 4, let's revisit the eight episodes that introduced us to the world of “Sparks Camp.”
Hosted by 'Mother Sparker' Mela Habijan, Season 1 officially kicked off by introducing its 10 campers Aaron Maniego, Alex De Ungria, Bong Gonzales, Dan Galman, Gabe Balita, Justin Macapallag, Karl Bau, Nat Magbitang, Nick Deocampo, and Stanley Bawalan. Coming from different backgrounds, the group wasted no time getting acquainted—and discovering who immediately caught their attention.
The pilot episode came with some awkward moments (apparently, one camper unfollowed another online despite them having exchanged messages even before joining the show). But there was also kilig potential to balance things out, as some pairs showed early chemistry in their first challenge.
With first impressions out of the way, Episode 2 gave the campers more opportunities to figure out which ‘sparks’ were actually worth exploring. After winning the first challenge, Karl and Dan earned one-on-one dates and chose Justin and Nat, respectively, and let's just say the two dates went in very different directions.
The first spark results were in. Episode 3 proved that you can never be too confident about who's into whom. Gabe, Stanley, Aaron, and Dan received none, while Alex became the camp's early favorite with three sparks.
But the sweetest reveal would have to be Bong and Alex choosing each other, giving us the season's first mutual spark.
More campers got their turn at one-on-one dates in Episode 4, and sometimes, getting to know a person better really can change your first impression. Some pairs, like Nick and Stanley, realized that their chemistry was giving more friendly than romantic.
Things got a lot more revealing during the ‘Moment of Truth’ session, where the campers candidly talked about their intimate experiences. The episode was packed with juicy confessions, as well as an important conversation about creating a space where queer people can talk openly about sexuality without shame.
The spark situation officially got a little messy in Episode 5. Dan and Karl finally had a mutual spark, and the Alex-Bong ship suddenly wasn't looking quite as solid after Alex chose Justin instead, leaving Bong understandably a little hurt.
The mood turned more sentimental around the campfire, where the campers brought out meaningful objects tied to their pasts and opened up about heartbreak, insecurities, and family. Some burned their items as a symbolic way of saying goodbye to painful memories.
New possibilities emerged in Episode 6, where the campers reflected on difficult experiences from past relationships. Their stories offered a deeper look into the walls some had built around themselves, and what it meant for them to slowly open up again.
With the end of camp getting closer, Episode 7 gave everyone a chance to be a little bolder about their feelings during a pool party. Aaron made his interest in Nick known with a hand-drawn portrait and flowers, while Bong and Alex even made a pinky promise to go on a date outside camp. Justin also finally told Alex how he felt, hoping that their unfinished story might deserve another chance.
Amid all the romantic developments, the night also made room for vulnerability. Alex opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life. His fellow campers were right there to support him, which reminded us of the friendships and safe space they'd also found at camp.
After all the dates and shifting feelings it was finally time to answer the biggest question—who would leave camp with mutual sparks? As they made their final choices in Episode 8, the campers got one last chance to sit down and say everything they still wanted to say before giving their 'sparks' face-to-face. The campers showed unreciprocated feelings and tears, as well as gratitude for the bond they'd discovered along the way.
The finale gave us two mutual sparks—Karl and Nick, whose dynamic blossomed rather unexpectedly toward the end of camp, and Alex and Justin, who decided they were willing to give their previously missed potential another chance.
Of course, a mutual spark didn't automatically mean an official relationship status. Instead, camp ended with the possibility of seeing where these shared attraction could go next.
And now, the camp is ready to welcome Tommy Alejandrino, Ian Lubrica, Taku Morita, Jury Fajardo, Michael Padiernos, Joaquin Espiritu, Gio Lopez, EJ Magistrado, Beej Mordeno, and Howie Johnson for "Sparks Camp" Season 4.
