Apart from his striking performances across several movies and television shows, actor McCoy de Leon first gained widespread recognition as one of the charming members of Hashtags, the all-male group featured on “It's Showtime.” Showing that he had the passion for pursuing greater things, he then embraced more complex roles, stretching from the romantic and familial to the antagonistic.
This July, McCoy has been fully prepared to take part in the upcoming Kapamilya series, “Someone, Someday,” where his fictional identity was first revealed through prominent tattoos, particularly disheveled hair, and rugged-looking clothes, leading to enthusiastic hunches that he could be a tough character.
Before making his anticipated appearance in “Someone, Someday,” McCoy first appeared in “Be Careful with My Heart,” sharing scenes with Janella Salvador, Jerome Ponce, and Marlo Mortel. At that time, he played Iñigo Cabanatan, considered one of the school’s troublemakers. McCoy soon reconnected with Janella in “Maalaala Mo Kaya’s” 2015 episode, “Pink Dress.”
More from the year 2015, the actor wrapped up a special participation in “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita,” particularly as the teenage version of Carlo Asuncion (played by Richard Yap).
Back in 2016, McCoy wonderfully portrayed the smart and dependable Ralph in “We Will Survive.” Throughout the series, he was able to build a heart-fluttering on-screen love team with Maris Racal, who truly brought the cheerful Jenny to life.
McCoy’s aptitude for fantasy-inspired characters was tested while working on “Wansapanataym Presents: Tikboyong,” a story in which he was an adopted child who turned out to be a tikbalang (also known as a mythical half-man and half-horse creature). Not only that, in “Wansapanataym Presents: Mr. Cutepido,” McCoy was a famous yet troublesome DJ who had been magically cursed to morph into Cupid.
As part of “Pinoy Big Brother Lucky 7,” McCoy entered the iconic house with a twist, and that was by being a 2-in-1 housemate alongside fellow Hashtags member Nikko Natividad. McCoy also went through the incredibly intense acting workshop of Director Rory Quintos, who managed to teach every single housemate to show off their enraged portrayals.
Later on, McCoy worked with Coco Martin in the two highly rated series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” For the first show, he represented JP Arevalo, the brother of Alyana (Yassi Pressman), while for the second, he superbly depicted David Dimaguiba, one of the main antagonists.
His knack for performing in a variety of emotional family dramas was even more highlighted in “The Good Son,” “Ipaglaban Mo: Katiwala,” and “Walang Hanggang Paalam.” McCoy also appeared in the 2022 rom-com “2 Good 2 Be True.”
