OPM singer and songwriter Maki took pride in performing one of his hit songs, “Kahel Na Langit,” at the 39th Awit Awards.

Maki took to social media to reflect on how the song has become a special part not only of his life, but also of his fans and listeners.

“i still can’t quite put into words what it felt like performing ‘Kahel na Langit’ take its biggest stage yet,” Maki wrote.

He went on, “There’s something deeply surreal about seeing a song that once lived as words on a page become something thousands of people can hear, feel, and experience together. and selfishly, I’m allowing myself to sit with the pride of knowing that I wrote this.”

The song, which was inspired by personal experience, also became a way for Maki to share a part of himself through his music.

“‘Kahel na Langit’ has always meant so much to me—not just because of what it became, but because of where it started. To see it grow beyond the pain I experienced, the page, beyond the studio, and onto a stage this big feels like watching a little piece of myself come alive in a way I could only have imagined,” he added.

Maki was one of the artists who received six nominations at the 39th Awit Awards. “Kahel Na Langit” was nominated for Song of the Year, Best Performance by a Solo Artist, Best Alternative Recording, and Best Music Video.

Although he did not take home an award, Maki remained proud of how the song continues to be recognized and celebrated.

“Last night, I’m not just proud of the song. I’m proud of the words i gave it, the story we built around it, and everyone who helped bring its colors to life.

“Funny how one color could remind us a whole lifetime. A lifetime of memories and a love that would never ever die.

“Kahit lumipas man ilang dekada :’),” Maki stated.

Maki ended his message by reflecting on the song’s themes of pain, love, and moving forward. “And just like how the sun says goodbye inevitably, it always comes back smiling with the warmth and assurance that life simply must goes on. ‘Cause when life goes on, so does love.

“from the darkest shade of pain in my heart, to kahel na langit under the brightest stars. 🧡

“what a beautiful thing it is to say: I wrote that.”

Maki released “Kahel Na Langit” in 2025 as one of the tracks on his album Kolorcoaster. In a previous interview with Mimiyuuuh, Maki revealed that he wrote the song during a period in his life when he felt extremely exhausted yet had no romantic partner to confide in.

"Ako kasi personally I wrote this specifically nung time na sobra akong pagod ako talaga. 'Di ko na name-measure 'yung pagod ko to the point na matutulog na lang ako, pipikit na lang ako pag-uwi sa bahay tapos hindi ko siya nare-realize na wala akong nasasabihan tungkol sa victories ko. Iba kasi 'yung sabihin mo sa friends or sa family pero 'yung romantically wala ka," he recounted.

Maki admitted that having a special someone gives a different sense of security. "Feeling mo safe ka kahit anong sabihin [mo], no judgment at all," he said.
