Alex Eala is learning to embrace life in the spotlight as her growing success continues to draw more attention from Filipino fans and the international tennis community.
With Filipinos turning up in full force at her recent tournaments, the 21-year-old tennis star has found herself receiving more attention than ever. While the increased spotlight comes with its share of pressure, Alex chooses to see it as part of the journey she has worked hard to reach.

Speaking during her pre-tournament press conference for the 2026 Cincinnati Open, Alex was asked whether being in the spotlight feels heavy or fun.
“I think it can

be both,” Alex admitted. “There are moments where it's heavy. There are moments when it's fun. But at the end of the day, I am also aware that it's a crazy experience so I'm just trying to take it all in.”
Rather than allowing attention to define her, Alex sees it as a reminder of the work that brought her to this point and what she still needs to do to maintain it.
“I know also that I wouldn't be having these experiences if I didn't do all the work that I did beforehand. I know that I won't continue to experience it if I don't continue that work.”
For Alex, the experience has also extended beyond tennis. Being under the public eye has helped her grow, mature, and look at her career and life from a wider perspective.
“But yes, it has really helped me develop as a person and just see things from a different perspective. It allowed me to mature a lot. It taught me a lot of lessons but also given me so much joy," she maintained.
Now, Alex is ready to embrace another new experience as she makes her Cincinnati Open debut.
“I am super excited to be here in Cincinnati for the first time. Hopefully the weather will get better as time goes by. I think the facility is amazing. I also saw the amusement park pulling up here through the side, so, hopefully I'll have time for that too.”
“I guess the great thing about travelling being such a big part of my job is that I'm always learning new things. I'm always learning and meeting new people, so I get to learn about their culture and different things like that," she explained.
Alex continues to approach each new tournament with the same mindset of staying grounded, learning in every match, and letting the work speak for itself.
The Filipina tennis star will face Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament on Saturday, August 15.
