Director-producer Maria Diane Ventura shared how important it is to tell the real story of each member of the Eraserheads through the acclaimed Filipino docufilm, Eraserheads: Combo on the Run. During the exclusive screening of the documentary earlier this week at the Newport Theater, the film’s director shared more details about what they went through to document the birth and legacy of the iconic band.
Diane expressed that there is so much to learn about the backgrounds of Ely Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro.

“I think it’s important to introduce their music and their story to the new generation that probably wasn’t there when all these things happened. There’s a lot to learn from their story and from these people and from their music,” she expressed.
She added that the four musicians were ready to tell their side of the story, especially after all the speculations about why they parted ways decades ago at the height of the band’s career. As someone who witnessed it firsthand, Diane maintained that the film was liberating for her as well.
“I think they were also ready to tell their story and so I think that story was something that [was] really kind of cathartic for me too and I wanted to share what I’ve experienced through them with everyone else,” she continued.
While it has been released and shown in several parts of the world, the reimagined cut for its Netflix release will retain the same storyline but provide more context for global viewers.
“We want to make sure the emotional throughline remains strong while shaping it in a way that feels more expansive and accessible. Ultimately, I hope it becomes a story not just about a band but about connection, about finding ways back to each other, and about the possibility of healing, especially in a time when the world feels increasingly divided,” she explained.

Eraserheads: Combo on the Run is set to make its global debut on streaming platform Netflix on May 30. It will be available for streaming in more than 190 countries and will feature a newly reworked cut–– never-before-seen footage, additional materials, and a refined edit among many more.
