Nadine Lustre shared that she definitely plans to return making music in the future, saying it remains a creative outlet she deeply enjoys.
"For sure. I work with a friend of mine who released an album pero featuring lang ako dun. But I still enjoy making music," she said in an interview with MJ Felipe in The B Side of Cinema One.
The actress-singer emphasized that the creative process is what draws her back to music. "I enjoy writing, I enjoy being in the studio and just vibing and kind of coming up with ideas or you know, just making something," she said.
Nadine last released an album in 2020 titled Wildest Dreams. The album's release was paired with a 33-minute visual album, featuring a collection of music videos for six of its tracks.
Meanwhile, in the realm of acting, Nadine is set to star in the upcoming film Call Me Mother alongside Vice Ganda.
The movie follows Vice Ganda as Twinkle, a single queer mom whose long-awaited adoption of her son is suddenly disrupted when the child's biological mother, played by Nadine, reappears in their lives.
In the same interview, Nadine revealed that she immediately said yes to the project upon learning she would be working with Vice without even asking about the role or the story.
"When they approached me, tapos sabi nila, magpi-pitch kami ng project tapos ang kasama mo si Vice. Sabi ko game. Di na ako nagtanong ano po 'yung kwento, ano po 'yung role ko?" she recalled.
"Nag-message sa akin 'yung [road manager] ko, 'Mi 'yung role mo raw nanay,' ganyan. Sabi ko paanong nanay? Kasi, I don't know, meron kasi silang kinu-kwento na once mag-role ka ng mas mature, ng mother, tuluy-tuloy na 'yan. Parang it kind of typecasts you in a specific role. Kinuwento nila 'yung role. Sabi ko, okay naman pala. I don't think I will be typecasted, 'yun ang sabi ko. Tapos sabi ko, game sige po," she said.
In the film, Nadine plays Mara. "'Yung character ko kasi si Mara, I would say she's not heavily into the responsibility. 'Yun na lang. I leave it like that," she shared about her character.
To prepare for the role, Nadine shared that she drew inspiration from real-life stories. "'Yung situation, 'yung nangyari sa kanya, 'yun ang mas pinag-aralan ko. What I did was asked friends parang almost the same situation. I still need a bit of refence kasi as much as possible kailangang maging realistic 'yung realistic 'yung pag-portray ko kay Mara," she said.
The actress relayed she also found common ground with her character through their shared passion for work. "The good thing about Mara is she's a career woman which is something I know how to do. Although just not in the same line. When it comes to being passionate about one's career, dun kami nagkatugma so I think dun napadali 'yung trabaho ko," she said.
In a previous interview with the TFC show BRGY, Nadine shared her experience returning to doing comedy in Call Me Mother.
The actress admitted she initially thought the transition would be easy but quickly realized comedy comes with its own set of challenges.
"I kept saying before when I was doing horror and thriller kasi dark eh so there's a lot of heavy emotions na fear, there's anger — alam mo yun, ang dami, puro lower emotions. But this time, sabi ko I feel like it is going to be a walk in the park kasi light lang siya, ganyan, tapos comedy. [But] it's so challenging," she admitted.
According to Nadine, the toughest part was trying not to laugh in scenes where her character and Vice Ganda's character were supposed to have tension.
"Kasi 'yung roles namin dito ni Ate Vice, hindi naman chummy naman characters namin dito eh, so ano kami may tension. Pero nagtatawanan kami. As in 'pag magtinginan lang kami, magtatawanan kami. Minsan nakakailang take kasi tawa lang kami nang tawa. So dito ko na-confirm na mas mahirap pala mag-comedy talaga just because you really need to hold your laugh. Tapos you have to be serious lalo na kung 'yung eksena hindi ka naman nakakatawa, na you have to take it seriously. Kaya maraming eksena dito na nakailang take kami kasi tawa ako nang tawa," she said.
