Nadine Lustre shared the backstory of her plant-based milk brand, Dehusk, which she launched with her boyfriend Christophe Bariou.
"We actually launched last November 30... Really happy about this project. Chris and I hopped on the project a bit later na, so our partners, Sam (Tecuala) and Quan (Tan), have been working on this project for quite a while na," the actress shared in an interview with MJ Felipe in TFC's BRGY.
The actress relayed that they got introduced to the product's founder through Chris' brother.
"And parang one day lang at a start-up event they met Chris' brother and Chris' brother was like, 'Hey my brother is actually trying to make.' Kasi nung time na 'yun parang Chris wanted to experiment and try to make his own milk brand. Kasi he realized how inexpensive it is to make oat milk so probably like all of the plant-based milk baka madali lang," she recalled.
"So he was like, 'Okay what if I try to make this as a business.' So 'yung parang sobrang timing lang na his brother met them at a convention and then biglang from then on, usap na kami. We tried working on it, dere-derecho na."
Nadine highlighted that one of the best aspects of the product is how it helps in cutting off carbon emissions.
"I think what's amazing about Dehusk is that it's locally sourced, so we help out the coconut farmers and it's locally produced as well. Meaning it cuts off a lot of the carbon emission or the carbon footprint. Kasi we're one of the top exporters of coconuts in the world, and the thing is, our coconuts are sent out tapos sent back to us as products and we're taxed," she pointed out.
"That's what our partners are really trying to solve na parang how do we make a product or make a [coconut-based] milk or coconut product that's by the Filipinos, for the Filipinos and addresses a lot of concerns like calcium deficiency, lactose intolerance, and the carbon emissions," the Uninvited star relayed.
She added: "We're just really lucky that we are on board with this amazing project."
